The Best Hotels in Roma Norte: What to Look For, and How We Answer It

Quick answer

The best hotels in Roma Norte come down to five things: size, the suite itself, what's included, what's in the building, and what's within walking distance. We're an eight-suite 1920s French-style townhouse at Tonalá 53. Breakfast is included, served in your suite or at La Valise Café downstairs. We have a spa and the Pis-cinema, our indoor pool and cinema, and Rosetta is a five-minute walk away. We welcome guests aged 12 and older. There's no elevator and no parking, and you'll pay a 21% hospitality tax plus a $40 USD destination fee per night on top of the rate.

We won't rank anyone else's house for you. That isn't our place, and the lists that try are mostly booking sites in disguise. What we can do is tell you which questions actually separate one Roma Norte hotel from another, and answer each one about ourselves, plainly, including the parts that might rule us out.

We keep things to eight suites, so we tend to know what you'll like. We'd rather you knew what you were booking.

1. How big is it?

We have eight suites. That's the whole house: Polaris, Moon, Gravity, Cilene, Atlas, Halo, Nebula and Nova, inside a 1920s French-style townhouse at Tonalá 53, Roma Norte, 06700. Yves Naman founded La Valise here in 2014, and in 2023 the house grew to take in new leisure spaces.

Size decides more than people expect. In a house this small there's no crowd at breakfast, and the person who greets you in the morning is likely the one who booked your dinner. Our team stays in the house 24 hours a day, and the main entrance opens with an electronic code.

If you're travelling as a group, up to three suites book on our standard terms. All eight together is a buyout with its own contract, arranged through mexico.reservations@lavalise.com.

2. What is the suite actually like?

Every suite has a king-size bed and a daybed, 420-thread-count linen-cotton sheets, a bathtub, 24-hour air conditioning, a Nespresso machine, a minibar, an in-room safe, a hairdryer and a garment steamer. The differences are where the choosing happens:

  • Polaris: the original northern star of La Valise. Its king-size bed rolls out onto a large private terrace, so you can sleep under the sky.
  • Cilene: also has a rolling bed.
  • Atlas: two levels, with a rooftop terrace.
  • Screens: Atlas, Gravity, Nebula and Polaris have a TV. Cilene, Halo, Moon and Nova have an in-room projector instead.

One honest note. Atlas, Nebula and Nova have steps inside the suite, and the house has no elevator. It's a protected historic building and the structure doesn't allow one. If stairs are a problem for you, tell us before you book and we'll talk it through.

3. What's included in the rate?

Breakfast is included. You can have it brought up to your suite or take it at La Valise Café, downstairs. Free Wi-Fi runs through the house, and the Pis-cinema is open to every guest at no extra charge.

What isn't included, so it doesn't surprise you: our prices are quoted in US dollars, and a 21% hospitality tax and a $40 USD destination fee per night are added to the nightly rate. We're cash-free and take major credit cards. At check-in we hold $100 USD per night on your card for incidentals.

4. What's in the building?

A spa, an indoor pool, a café and people who know the city. We don't have a restaurant, and we don't pretend to.

  • La Valise Spa: treatments in the spa itself, or in your suite if you'd rather not move.
  • The Pis-cinema: our indoor pool and cinema space, one of the rooms that came with the 2023 expansion. Swim, then watch something.
  • La Valise Café: French café culture brought to Roma Norte. All-day breakfast and lunch, French pastries and specialty coffee. The pastry case is the reason to come down early.
  • The Voyage Within: our experiences program, built around you across five streams: Nurture (wellness), Explore (nature and adventure), Create (culture and art), Connect (community) and a fifth we'll walk you through in person.

For dinner, we work with Roma Norte's own kitchens instead. Our team will bring the neighborhood's best bites to your suite, or send you out the door to them.

5. What can you walk to?

From Tonalá 53, Rosetta and Máximo Bistrot are both about a five-minute walk. Rosetta sits on Colima between Orizaba and Córdoba, in a mansion where chef Elena Reygadas cooks Mexican food built on what's in season. Her bakery, Panadería Rosetta, is just across the street at Colima 179, and it's the morning walk we recommend most.

Plaza Río de Janeiro is close too. It's a tree-filled square built around a bronze copy of Michelangelo's David, put there in 1976, with the turreted Casa de las Brujas on the Durango corner. Roma Norte rewards a slow walk more than a fast one, and this is where to take it.

Further out, you'll want a car. We arrange private transfers, including from Mexico City International Airport, about 45 minutes away.

Who we're not right for

We're not the right house for families with young children: we welcome guests aged 12 and older. Pets stay home. If you're driving, we have no on-site parking. And if you need a business center, we don't have one. Better to know that now than at the door.

What others have said

We've been recognised in the Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards, and written about in Architectural Digest (January 2024), Vogue (July 2025), the Financial Times (February 2022) and Condé Nast Traveller, most recently in January 2026. It's nice to read. Still, the best judge is your first morning here.
