We keep things to eight suites, so we tend to know what you'll like.
That's the short version of who we are. La Valise Mexico City is a 1920s French-style townhouse at Tonalá 53, in Roma Norte, with eight suites, a café on the ground floor and a team that stays in the house around the clock. It was founded in 2014 by Yves Naman and expanded in 2023, when we added the leisure spaces downstairs. If you're searching for a small hotel in Roma Norte, this page tells you plainly what eight suites in one house means, and what it doesn't.
How many suites do we have?
We have eight suites: Polaris, Moon, Gravity, Cilene, Atlas, Halo, Nebula and Nova. There are no standard categories and no corridor of identical doors. Each one was designed on its own, and each one has a name we use every day, so when you write to us about "the one with the bed on the terrace", we'll know you mean Polaris.
| Suite | Size | What sets it apart |
|---|---|---|
| Polaris | 95 m² | The original. A king-size rolling bed that glides out onto a large private terrace |
| Moon | 95 m² | An oscillating Moon art installation, "La Luna", that reveals a private bathing area |
| Gravity | 95 m² | Hand-painted furniture, a canopy bed and balconies |
| Cilene | 80 m² | A rolling bed, an in-room projector, and a private terrace with garden access and an outdoor tub |
| Atlas | 72 m² | Two levels of vintage objects, with a rooftop terrace, outdoor shower and a bathtub over the city |
| Nebula | 58 m² | Rounded walls, a freestanding artisanal bathtub and a desk facing the balconies |
| Halo | 56 m² | A gallery-style lounge with French windows onto balconettes and a deluxe bathtub |
| Nova | 46 m² | Our coziest: a projector lounge and a clawfoot tub inside a gallery of mirrors |
Every suite has a king-size bed and a daybed with 420-thread-count linen-cotton sheets, a bathtub, 24-hour air conditioning, an in-room safe, a Nespresso machine and a minibar. Atlas, Gravity, Nebula and Polaris have a TV. Cilene, Halo, Moon and Nova have a projector instead, which is the better choice if you like a film in bed.
What does a small house change about your stay?
Mostly, it changes who you deal with. Our team stays in the townhouse 24/7, and the front door works on an electronic code, so only guests and staff come in. Breakfast is included, and we'll bring it up to your suite or you can take it downstairs at La Valise Café. Want a spa treatment? Book it in La Valise Spa or have it done in your suite.
It also changes how we plan your days. The Voyage Within is our experiences program, built around five streams: Nurture (wellness), Explore (nature and adventure), Create (culture and art), Connect (community) and a fifth we'll walk you through when you arrive. Tell us what you're curious about and we'll shape something around it. Private transfers from the airport are arranged the same way: you write, we sort it. Consider it arranged.
What's downstairs?
La Valise Café sits on the ground floor and brings French café culture to Roma Norte: all-day breakfast and lunch, French pastries and specialty coffee. The house is quiet this morning, a good one for the courtyard, is a sentence we say often, and the café is usually where those mornings start.
Below the suites is the Pis-cinema, our indoor pool and cinema space, added in 2023. Access is included for every guest. Swim, then stay for the screening.
We don't run a full dining room. Instead we keep partnerships with local kitchens and can have dishes from Roma Norte's eateries brought to your suite.
Who is a small townhouse right for?
It's right for couples, solo travelers and small groups of friends who'd rather be known by name than by suite number. It's less right for a few people, and we'd rather say so now:
- Families with young children: we welcome guests aged 12 and over only. The house is small and the atmosphere is quiet, and our experiences are designed for the same age range.
- Guests who need step-free access: the townhouse has no elevator, for structural reasons, and Atlas, Nebula and Nova have steps inside the suite. Write to us before you book and we'll tell you honestly which suite works.
- Travelers bringing a car: we have no on-site parking.
- Pets: they stay home, we're sorry to say.
Where are we in Roma Norte?
We're at Tonalá 53, Roma Norte, 06700. Roma Norte rewards a slow walk more than a fast one, and our street makes that easy. Rosetta and Máximo, two of the neighborhood's best-known kitchens, are each about a five-minute walk. Plaza Río de Janeiro, with its copy of Michelangelo's David at the center of the fountain, is close enough for a coffee before breakfast. The airport is about 45 minutes away by car.
What have others written about us?
We're recognized in the MICHELIN Guide and by Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards. The house has been written up in Architectural Digest (January 2024), Vogue (July 2025), the Financial Times (February 2022) and Condé Nast Traveller, among others. We mention it once and leave it there.
Booking the whole house
You can. Reserving all eight suites counts as a buyout and is handled under a separate contract, with its own rates and policies. Write to mexico.reservations@lavalise.com and we'll talk it through. Groups of up to three suites book under our standard policy.
